PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG as many shorten it, is one of the greatest multiplayer games to send off this year. With more than 4 million complete players hunting each other on the PC adaptation, and a Xbox One form not too far off, exactly how should PUBG improve? Indeed, with the presentation of cross play, maybe?
With Minecraft and Rocket League permitting PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One players to combine efforts or the inverse without purchasing rival stages, console gaming is apparently more amiable than at any other time. PlayerUnknown’s Battleground’s chief maker Chang Han Kim needs a piece of the cake, too.
“Cross network play between the PC and the console is definitely something we want to do down the road, and we don’t anticipate we’ll have any technical issues with that,” Kim said in a meeting with VG247.
“But… when you consider the competitive side of the game, I do feel that there’s a balance issue between controllers and keyboard and mouse. That’s what’s making it difficult for us to do right away. If we’re going to allow players to use controllers we need to have the aim assist added in and things like that. We’re not going to be supporting it right away, but it’s something we’d like to look into later.”
Kim’s concern with regards to adjusting among PC and control center clients is exceptionally justified, particularly when you consider a portion of gaming’s past endeavors. The 2007 FPS Shadowrun permitted cross-stage play between the two Games for Windows Live clients and Xbox 360 players some time ago; it was an outright bloodbath with 360 players getting butchered against their console and mouse employing enemies. Current games, for example, Minecraft, Gears of War 4 and Rocket League are games that make various moves to ensure that gamers are having a fair encounter across platforms.
Gears of War 4 has full cross play support for co-discretionary modes with positioned matches having a switch, permitting clients to select in or out of matches against PC players. Minecraft is for the most part a co-employable encounter as well, and its inconvenient battle isn’t the game’s concentration. Rocket League? Indeed, control arrangement doesn’t actually appear to issue a lot. In any case, bringing a serious multiplayer game like PUBG to a cross-play experience may not seem like the savviest thing to do, yet ideally the engineers can sort out a method for adjusting the element properly.
